Celebrate

Celebrate can mean several things.

• One celebrates a holiday (ie. Are you celebrating Arbor Day this year?).
• Celebration also carries with it the same connotation of celebrity. In this sense, something celebrated is "proclaimed publicly" or is widely known.
• A third sense is the idea of providing with favorable support or praise, as in Charles Shulz's celebrated Peanuts comic strip
• Finally, to celebrate can mean to solemnize or make official by going through some ritual or formal observance--celebrate a marriage, for instance.

Whitman means all of these things at the same time. The "Song" is a ritual through which he will describe, create and proclaim himself.
